God Lives in a Constant and Eternal State of Peace
He is self-sufficient, all-powerful, and all-knowing. He owns and controls everything and He needs nothing. He is at peace because He is in control. Nothing and no one can alter His ultimate will, purpose, and destiny for the universe, world, and mankind. He is unmovable and unshakable. God is confident in His deity & supremacy and although people doubt Him, He is undeniable.
Because God is this way, we can also experience this peace because God is our Father and He created us. In order for us to experience our highest level of peace possible while still on the earth, we must learn to think like God and hide ourselves in God. In God we are safe from the storms and uncertainties of life.
What Does Peace Look Like?
Peace is calmness, security, rest. We know what peace is and we want to live in peace, but many of us live without it and settle for less. The opposite of peace is turmoil, anger, frustration. Much of our peace depends on who we think we are and whose we think we are. This includes who we believe is ultimately in control of our lives, where we came from and where we believe we are eventually going.
Much of our peace also depends upon our thoughts, motives, and actions. If any of these are out of balance or not aligned with God’s word and God’s will for our lives, our peace will be negatively affected. The closer we stay to the Lord and the more we include Him in our hopes, dreams, plans, and daily schedules, the greater level of peace we will enjoy and the more consistent our peace will be.
Regardless of our circumstances, we always have the ability and the choice to rejoice. Our ability to choose our attitude, thoughts, and disposition despite our circumstances is something no one can take from us.
Philippians 4:4-9 CEV
"Always be glad because of the Lord! I will say it again: Be glad. Always be gentle with others. The Lord will soon be here. Don’t worry about anything, but pray about everything. With thankful hearts offer up your prayers and requests to God. Then, because you belong to Christ Jesus, God will bless you with peace that no one can completely understand. And this peace will control the way you think and feel. Finally, my friends, keep your minds on whatever is true, pure, right, holy, friendly, and proper. Don’t ever stop thinking about what is truly worthwhile and worthy of praise. You know the teachings I gave you, and you know what you heard me say and saw me do. So follow my example. And God, who gives peace, will be with you."
Choose and purpose to be cheerful throughout the day. It is hard to be mad or sad when you have a smile on your face. Choose to smile more, laugh more, and look on the bright side of things. Look for the positive in people and situations.
Making Our Prayers & Requests to God, Not Man
When our hope and expectation is in the Lord, God’s peace covers us and protects us thus we remain peaceful regardless of the outcomes we face throughout life.
Gratitude & thanksgiving maximize what we have and minimize what we don’t have. Conversely, coveting minimizes what we have and maximizes what we don’t have. They are also the antidote to self-pity, coveting, striving.
Much of the battle for peace is lost or won in our minds. We need to be vigilant and truly think about what we’re thinking about.
Follow Good Examples
Practice disciplined actions. A lack of discipline will cause us to do things we don’t wish to do and to not do things that we do wish to do. This will lead to frustration which disturbs our sense of peace. The more disciplined we are, the more consistent we will be which means the more peaceful we will remain.
God is at rest and He is at peace. We must learn to think, believe, and act as He does. As we choose to remain close to God and hidden in God, we will remain safe from the storms and uncertainties of life and our level of peace will remain high and consistent.
